Danny Alvarez just wants to make art, one can of spray paint at a time, but things are never so simple.
His family’s story takes place at the meeting of two worlds: the fine-tuned art of classic cars and defiant art of graffiti, the past of his family and his own future, still in the making.
It’s that point where Mexican heritage blends into American culture, creating something altogether its own. And it sounds like Danny tells it with relatable honesty, magnetic personality, and just a touch of humor.
Between the combination of stunning brightly colored Chevys and a cast, the film is setting up to be pretty easy on the eyes.
For the ladies, there’s the smooth features of Gabriel Chavarria. Though still a relatively unknown actor, Chavarria takes the lead on this film, portraying the rebellious and eager main character, Danny Alvarez.
Eva Longoria lends her bomb curves and unique acting charm to the role of Danny’s mom.
In the trailer, we can see her embracing the car culture style and it seems to suit her perfectly. Made famous from her striking part on Desperate Housewives, Longoria has made it a project of hers to put more Latinos on screen. She was the executive producer on series Devious Maids, with a mainly Latina cast.
They are accompanied by Supergirl star Melissa Benoist, and Demian Bichir from Quentin Tarantino’s the Hateful Eight.
Lowriders is the first child of Telemundo’s new film division, made in partnership with Eva Longoria Films. The Telemundo studio is probably most known for the drama of its telenovelas, so we have to wait and see how they handle a full-length film.
Lowriders hits theaters on May 12th, 2017.
