The Trump administration Tuesday formally announced it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — also called DACA — putting an expiration date on the legal protections granted to roughly 800,000 people known as “DREAMers,” who entered the country illegally as children.

Because of Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA, thousands of teenage Dreamers who were just about to become old enough to apply for the program are going to be turned away. Starting today, these young people are now prevented from obtaining a driver’s license or a work permit and they will be eligible for deportation.
On March 6, 2018, more than 800,000 young people—will be prevented from renewing their DACA status. Each day after that for the next 20 months more than 1,000 people will lose their work permits and protection from deportation.
Please note that if your DACA expires between now and March 5, 2018, you can apply for a two-year renewal but that application MUST be submitted by October 5, 2017.
Losing DACA means losing our jobs, as well as our ability to work, drive, buy a home, or even open a bank account. It means we are in danger of deportation, even though many of us have lived here for almost our entire lives.
We will NOT be forced back into the shadows. This is the country we call home. We are #HereToStay.
Losing DACA is a morally unacceptable future and one we have to change. Here at America’s Voice, we are mobilizing resources to support those in need and taking action to fight back.
You’ll find know your rights information, mental health resources, FAQ, a link to a Facebook Live video with an immigration attorney tonight at 5:30 pm EST, and more.
Even if you’re not directly affected, we need your help. Congress can fix what happened today and protect Dreamers from deportation if they find the political will to do so.
An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us and we will not let our community be treated as bargaining chips. That’s why we have to send a huge message to Congress demanding that they stand with Dreamers. If they see the country erupting into outrage and action, they won’t be able to bury their heads in the sand.
Our friends at United We Dream are organizing rallies around the country to do just that.
The next few weeks and months will be some of the hardest, but we know how this story will end. Our parents didn’t pack up everything and leave just for us to give up now. Inevitably, we will win.

Earlier today, President Trump has decided to end DACA — the program that provides critical deportation protection and work authorization to 800,000 Dreamers in every state across the country — in the next six months.
Trump’s decision will have drastic and devastating consequences for our economy and our communities, if Congress does not act:
- An average of 1,400 Dreamers will be forced from their jobs every business day for the next two years.
- Every single Dreamer will be subject to deportation, often to countries they cannot even remember.
- And our economy will lose billions — $460.3 billion to be specific — over the next decade.
Ending DACA could break up families, cost businesses, and damage communities. On a personal note, it could put some of my closest friends and colleagues at immediate risk.
The time for reckoning is here. How we treat Dreamers in this moment — how quickly we come together and provide a pathway to earn citizenship when 85% of Americans support it — defines who we are as a nation.
Congress can and must fix this. But they need to hear from you — loud and clear. To Democrats and Republicans alike: Stand up for Dreamers now and support the bipartisan DREAM Act.
We know it’s going to take elected representatives from both sides of the aisle to pass a bill. Democrats and Republicans will have to work together, and they now have an immediate and pressing need to act. No bill will be perfect, but inaction is unacceptable.
We cannot wait and absolutely need your help in the fight for Dreamers. Let’s fight like hell.
