On Saturday, December 8, 2018, the Andy Vargas Foundation (AVF) will host their 1st Annual Holiday benefit concert “El Sueño…The Dream” to raise funds for college scholarships for Watsonville High School Students and for AVF programs. The benefit concert will take place at the historic Mello Center for Performing Arts in Watsonville, CA at 6 PM.
The evening holiday concert headlines Andy Vargas and his band Souleros with their unique sound of soul, R&B and Spanish boleros. This charity event is Vargas’ official homecoming performance as he served as vocalist for legendary Carlos Santana since 1999.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to come home and sing with my band Souleros for the first time for a community and my high school that stood behind me to achieve my dream of performing worldwide. I want to serve as a role model for other youth in Watsonville and inspire them to follow their dreams whatever they may be, regardless if they come from a small town,” said Vargas.
In 2015, Vargas established the Andy Vargas Foundation in Southern California, to provide music programs to youth living in underserved communities. The foundation’s goals are to help prepare students interested in attaining a career in the music industry with programs in live performance, music writing and publishing, and college scholarships.
In addition, Vargas would like to expand the Foundation’s program to join forces with his father Javier Vargas’ music program in Watsonville, where he teaches the history and technique of traditional Mexican and Mariachi music to underserved children including migrant farm working youth.
“It has always been our family’s dream to have my son Andy come home to and perform at the Mello Center where he first performed in the High School Musical West Side Story. My wife Diana and I are very proud that he has made a decision not only to perform for the community, but to give back to the youth of Watsonville” said Javier Vargas.
The evening activities to include: VIP Reception, Silent auction, Opportunity Drawing, along with musical performances by Mariachi California de Javier Vargas, and Folklorico dance performances and a special presentation by students of Watsonville High School.
The evening closes with Souleros along with their special feature of the soon to be released single “Dreaming” written and based on Vargas’ grandfather’s life in coming to the US, and in tribute to all immigrants who come to this country to pursue the “American Dream”. Andy Vargas’ masterful, soul-tinged voice for years has been known to us as vocalist for the legendary rock band Santana. When not performing in packed arenas across the globe, Andy crafts his own music with his band Souleros. Souleros music is derived from Soulful R&B music integrated with traditional ballads also known as Boleros.
The Andy Vargas Foundation (AVF) is a nonprofit organization whose sole mission is to inspire and educate underserved adolescent and young adults, who aspire a career in the music industry. The AVF provides students with college scholarships for tuition and music programs.
