CR's Take This 15.6-inch Samsung laptop had very good performance and was fast for editing photos and viewing and editing HD videos, though just adequate for converting music files. It was fast for productivity and Web-based tasks such as word processing, Web browsing, e-mailing, and scanning for malware. It was fast for editing photos, fast for viewing and editing HD videos, and adequate for converting music files. Sound from the built-in speakers was inadequate for all but the simplest use. This laptop is a great choice for traveling. At 7.25 hours, battery life was very long, just about enough for a full day's work or more. At 5 pounds, this is lightweight for a laptop this size. The keyboard, touchpad, labeling, and LED indicators were all well-designed, making it comfortable and convenient to use. The full-sized keyboard was pleasant to type on. There's a dedicated number pad. The touchpad supports use of multiple-finger gestures to zoom and scroll. The touchpad has two buttons that are easy to press. The touchpad is well positioned on the keyboard, so it's easy to reach and not prone to interference from arms or wrists. The display quality was very good overall. Colors were in the ballpark, though not completely accurate. The display was anti-reflective, so there was little or no glare when viewing in a brightly lit room or outdoors. The viewing angle of the display is middling, so you might have to adjust the position for optimal viewability for one user and even more so for multiple viewers. Useful features and attributes on this model include: The spacious 640GB hard drive offers plenty of room for storing your music, photos, and movies. Gigabit Ethernet provides fast transfer of data over a local network. An HDMI port is provided for connecting this laptop to an HDTV. Downsides: There are no ExpressCard slots for adding Wi-Fi or TV tuners. |
