Join us in celebrating the twentieth edition of the Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam.
Two decades ago, we hosted the country’s first-ever teen poetry slam. Forty-three young poets participated, with hundreds of audience turned away at the door. Now, the annual event features hundreds of young writers from throughout the Bay Area and Northern California, and attracts nearly 10,000 audience members over the two-month period. The first Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam became the seed that sowed a global youth poetry movement.
The Olympic-style poetry competition kicks off on February 18, 2016 with preliminary rounds in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley. Poets ages 13-19 are invited to register for the Slam now.
The Grand Slam Finals take place at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco on Saturday, April 16. In addition to selecting the poets to represent the Bay Area in Washington DC for Brave New Voices, the Grand Slam Finals kick off our 20th Anniversary Celebration!
