Masks steeped in Mexico’s rich cultural history from artist Diego Marcial Rios.

EBMUD hosts regular art exhibitions in the gallery on the 2nd floor of its Oakland administrative building. Exhibits are open and free to the public Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. BART, AC Transit and wheelchair accessible. Closed on holidays.

About:

Breathtakingly colorful masks and papier-mâché art sculpture has long been part of the Mexican culture and are often used in celebration of Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead.

Dive into the rich history of this papier-mâché tradition alongside internationally acclaimed artist Diego Marcial Rios, who overviews its fascinating background before giving a demo on the craft.
