The Encuentro Del Canto Popular will feature SF Mission District native and Latin Jazz celebrity John Santos, up and coming reggaeton femme La Favi, the barrio groove of Almas Fronterizas, and the energy of Dj Leydis from Cuba.
Alley Cat Bookstore and Gallery will be celebrating its 7th year on Calle 24 by hosting a silent auction and fundraiser. As a gift to you they will be offering 20% off all books (excluding rare and collectibles) through the entire day! They are currently seeking donations of work for artists to show in the gallery, with proceeds directly benefiting the space. The Mission Arts and Performance Project is a community art and music event that takes place in the Mission for almost 15 years. MAPP is always the first Saturday of every other month and it is admission free and volunteer run. Mapp will be encompassing over 14 venues as well as public spaces, street corners, BART stations, cafes, bars, taquerias, homes all over La Mission.

This Saturday, December 1st, from 11am to 11pm, the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District will be pulsating with free, artistic events: Paseo Artístico, Encuentro del Canto Popular, Alley Cat Bookstore’s 7th Anniversary, and Mission Arts and Performance Project (MAPP).
The December 1 Paseo Artistico will promote the theme of Open Borders and support for those seeking amnesty at the southern border with local artists showcasing in different mediums and genres. Paseo Artistico is partnering with Precita Eyes, Dance Mission, Mission Cultural Center, Adobe Books, AlleyCat Books, and EQUINOM Gallery.

The Mission community’s annual celebration of resistance through music, the “Encuentro del Canto Popular,” is returning for its 37th year! For Encuentro 37 we’re doing something a little bit different: an intimate evening at Brava Theater with psychedelic Indigenous soul rockers Almas Fronterizas and Bay Area Latin percussion legend John Santos. Entrance is Free!
