Help create a new Teatro Visión Día de los Muertos play!

Hello Community, We invite you to a unique opportunity to help create a new Teatro Visión Día de los Muertos play!

Join us at one of our Community Circles to share your thoughts and stories about how we can live our lives in ways that, when “La Muerte” visits, we can feel at peace; and how the death of someone important can give birth to something new.

Our playwright Evelina Fernández, composer Russell Rodríguez, and directors Elisa Marina Alvarado and Rodrigo García will use your stories as inspiration to craft the script and music for this new play. All Community Circle participants will be credited in the program of the show’s planned premiere in October 2018.

Both Community Circles will also be live-streamed to Teatro Visión’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TeatroVision. Online participation is encouraged.

RSVP:

No preparation is required to attend the Community Circles, but we suggest that you RSVP via our online form.

Details:

Inspiration for the themes of our play and Community Circles comes from the classic Mexican novel Pedro Páramo written by Juan Rulfo and the influential work of Chicano literature The Road to Tamazunchale by Ron Arias. If you are interested in reading either Pedro Paramo or The Road to Tamazunchale, please email Teatro Visión at teatro@teatrovision.org or call at (408) 294-6621 to borrow a copy.

Playwright Evelina Fernández is an award-winning actor, playwright and screenwriter. Her epic A Mexican Trilogy: An American Story, which consists of her plays Faith, Hope, and Charity, was recently staged at the Los Angeles Theatre Center by the Latino Theater Company.

Composer Russell Rodríguez is an accomplished musician specializing in performance styles of huasteca, jarocho, mariachi, and other traditional music forms of México. His theater credits include working with San José Repertory Theater and El Teatro Campesino.

This new play development process is made possible by grants from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Applied Materials Foundation.
