Named in honor of the Eastside Café, the East L.A. community space where the members first came together to take Son Jarocho classes, Las Cafeteras have built a global profile and rabid fan base through tireless touring and an infectious live show that celebrates the mix of cultural influences they’ve absorbed as second-generation Americans and citizens of the world.
They’ve released a trio of audacious albums including their latest, 2017’s Tastes Like L.A., utilizing traditional Son Jarocho instruments and multilingual lyrics of love, loss, and survival, bringing light to issues of Civil Rights, migrant workers, and the DREAM Act.
The band has shared the stage with artists including Lila Downs, Juanes, Ozomatli, Caifanes, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and makes its SFJAZZ debut with these performances.
