Castro Street is now open to pedestrians and closed to vehicular traffic.
The 100 to 400 blocks of Castro Street will be closed to motor vehicles and buses on June 22, 2020 through September 30, 2020.
Pilot Program hours are from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Handwashing stations near intersections will be maintained on a daily basis.
Additional short-term parking will be provided in City parking lots and garages behind Castro Street for takeout and curbside pickup (24 minutes, except at 850 California Street Parking Structure which is 30 minutes).
Cross streets (Evelyn, Villa, Dana, California, and Mercy) will remain open.
Traffic detours will be provided.
Large spherical bollards will be placed at intersections to create a safe pedestrian space.
Special thanks also go to VTA staff for their flexibility in rerouting bus routes as well as the Live Nation – Shoreline Amphitheatre and Mountain View Whisman School District for providing tables for us in Castro StrEATS. Staff also wish to thank the Downtown Association and the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce for their active collaboration on this effort.
