Expect exciting interpretations of Latin jazz standards as well as original music featuring stellar solo instrumental work, soaring vocals and original compositions. Music Director, Dr. John Calloway; Managing Director Arturo Riera; Marketing and Operations Director Sylvia Ramirez.
Founded in 2001 by Bay Area bandleader and San Francisco State University faculty member John Calloway along with Arturo Riera and Sylvia Ramirez, LJYE has been preserving the traditions of Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban music by teaching it to young musicians.
The band has opened for jazz greats such as the Cuban bassist Israel “Cachao” López, and jammed with the likes of noted pianist Chuchito Valdés. Current alumni are on tour with Beyoncé, work at Pandora and form part of Mission based band, Soltrón.
