Bay Area restaurants join #DayWithoutImmigrants protest [Updating].

Excerpt SF Gate.

Today (Feb. 16) is a #DayWithoutImmigrants, a protest aimed at President Trump’s policies surrounding immigration, walls and “extreme vetting.”

The strike “aims to show the president the effect immigrants have in the country on a daily basis.”

In the restaurant world, the protest has gained momentum in recent days as big-name chefs like Jose Andres in DC and Rick Bayless in Chicago have joined the cause. Here in the Bay Area, a number of local restaurants are making a statement, too.

1. Before we get to that list, many SF 24th street’s Latino business were shut. Here’s some pics!

3. Other Bay Area businesses:

  • Chavez Supermarkets in San Jose also closed for the day.
  • Bay Area’s Tacolicious restaurants gave employees the option of protesting or coming to work.
  • Oakland’s Doña Tomás restaurant and its sister restaurant in Berkeley, Tacubaya.
  • El Rancho Market in Menlo Park closed the business to show solidarity with his staff of 22 who stayed home in protest.
