A peña is a meeting place of a group of musicians. In Buenos Aires, it is commonly associated with singers and guitarists coming together to share in tango canción (tango song).
Commonly heard at peñas are songs made famous by Carlos Gardel, Ignacio Corsini and others. In other words, an exposition of tango music rarely heard at the milonga, but just as vital to its history.
The second-ever Bay Area tango peña will be hosted at the Wooden Table Cafe Friday, April 12th, 6-8pm.
We’ll have the wonderful Guitarrero Scott O’Day on guitar. Come sing your favorite tangos or come listen.
Either way, Wooden Table has alfajores, empanadas, bonbons and lots to enjoy.
