Soltron was born out of the rich arts community of San Francisco’s Mission District. Their sounds echoes the traditions of the Afro-Latino musical diaspora while artfully blending electronic, Hip-Hop and art influences. Solution has just released their debut album produced by multiple Grammy Award nominee: the legendary Greg Landau. The band’s music addresses gentrification, displaced youth, and the struggle to survive while expressing joy, beauty, and pride of their cultural traditions and facilities
-PAMELA PARKER’S FANTASTIC MACHINE BIO-
Pamela Parker is the leader of a rock n’soul band featuring Tom Finch on guitar/vocals, Spence Murray on bass, and Chris McGrew on drums. The band’s raw energy along with Pamela’s powerhouse pipes bring to mind Amy Winehouse and Ann Wilson. Their dynamic show draws you close, then surges forward with anthemic power to lift you higher. Pamela shreds like a cross between Susan Tedeschi and Bonnie Raitt, guiding us with danceable hooks alongside her dueling lead player, Tom Finch. The upcoming album creates a fresh rock n’roll landscape with a diversity of touchstones you wouldn’t expect to experience like Alabama Shakes, Adele, Thin Lizzy, and Funkadelic. The last album, Evolutionary Process, debuted at #1 and was up for Album of the Year in Vancouver, BC. Twitter

About La Gente
La Gente, led by Rafael Bustamante Sarria, plays an intoxicating cocktail of world music, mixing cumbia, reggae, salsa and hip-hop. Their live shows are just the thing to shake off the post-holiday doldrums without forgetting your conscience. “Dance music with a political edge” is also a pretty accurate description of Soltron, opening for La Gente at this show on Jan. 12.
In addition, KQED profiled Soltron a few years ago. You can check out both the videos below to compare and contrast. There are no wrong answers. Details here.
