[theatre] Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name? // Berkeley

When Irma Herrera gives her name its correct Spanish pronunciation, some people assume she’s a foreigner. She’s not.

The proud Chicana claims her identities as Mexican and American, and she speaks both of her native languages: Spanish and English. Born and raised in South Texas, Irma worked three decades as a San Francisco civil rights lawyer and as a journalist. Her one-hour one-woman show Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name? was on stage in San Francisco from late October 2018 through the end of January 2019.

Now showing in Downtown Berkeley, Irma sheds light and throws shade and asks all of us to examine our prejudices and assumptions. Learn more about Irma and the invited guests who will join her on-stage to discuss issues affecting the Latino community after her show at irmaherrera.com
