Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin II

HBO PPV (5 p.m.) on Saturday, September 15th by Golden Boy Promotions.

Unified middleweight world titleholder Gennady Golovkin will defend his belts against former champion Canelo Alvarez on Saturday, Sept. 15, in a rematch of last September’s controversial split draw.

The biggest fight in boxing ended in a controversial draw. Now, middleweight stars Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) will settle the score on Saturday, September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 5 PM.

Boxing records:

Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) has 20 straight defenses in the division and is tied with Bernard Hopkins for the record. Hopkins made 20 middleweight title defenses between 1994 and 2005.

Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs), now campaigning as a full-fledged 160-pound middleweight, hasn’t lost a fight since dropping a majority decision against Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

The undercard:

Jaime Munguia vs. Brandon Cook | David Lemieux vs. Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan | Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez vs. Moises Fuentes.

Description: Junior middleweight world titlist Jaime Munguia, former middleweight world titleholder David Lemieux and former pound-for-pound king and four-division world champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez will all be in action.

Our favorite undercard!

Mexico’s Jaime Munguia (30-0, 25 KOs) — the big-hitting 21-year-old and a breakout star since bursting on the scene with a crushing fourth-round knockout of Sadam Ali to win the title in May followed by an action-packed decision win over former titlist Liam Smith in his first defense July 21 — will make his second defense against Brandon Cook in the co-feature.

“I’m very motivated to be in such an important card,” Munguia said. “It will be the most important boxing event of the year. For me it is an honor to be on this card supporting Canelo Alvarez, who is also Mexican, on a date [Mexican Independence Day weekend] that is so special for Mexico, for me and for all of the people. We will do our best to please the public. I promise to not disappoint.” Read more:
