Long the heart of the Latino Community in the Mission District, the Centro Social Obrero was for decades the place where new immigrants integrated into a new society.

There, legendary dances, social and political organizing events paved the way for the formation of new families and the Mission District Community.

During the past few years, the community faced losing the space to the displacement and gentrification pressures affecting so many of our Mission nonprofits.

In collaboration with MLVS, The Jamestown Community Center, Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc., and Mission Economic Development Agency, banded together, pooled resources and collaborated to form the 701 Alabama Consortium, purchasing the space with crucial support from Mayor London Breed: receiving a $1 Million grant from the Nonprofit Space Investment Fund at Community Vision, and obtaining financing from Bank of San Francisco.

Please join us in this joyful celebration of community resourcefulness and resilience! We will dance and celebrate Mission District cultura and talent!
