For the first time on our Central Coast, dancers and musicians of the Ballet Folklorico del Puerto de Veracruz will be in Watsonville and Aptos for 10 days for the “Reinforcing Cultural Identity” conference, August 15-25, 2024.

About the Veracruz shows!

Collaborative Partners: Esperanza del Valle, Cabrillo College, and Ballet Folklórico del Puerto de Veracruz de la Universidad Veracruzana.

Esperanza del Valle & Cabrillo College will host the Ballet Folklórico del Puerto de Veracruz dela Universidad Veracruzana.

Esperanza del Valle and Cabrillo College’s Visual, Applied and Performing Arts Department will be hosting Prof. Daniel del Valle Hernandez, Artistic Director of the Ballet Folklórico del Puerto de Veracruz de la Universidad Veracruzana (UV), twenty-four UV dancers and eight university musicians, Nematatlin, to teach, disseminate, and perform the rich, cultural dance and music traditions of Veracruz, Mexico.

“Reinforcing Cultural Identity” will be multifaceted with a variety of offerings for youth, teens, students, adults/seniors and the community at large: (Class Registration).

● Dance Classes- Beginning, intermediate and experienced level dance classes of the son jarocho from the Port City of Veracruz and Boca del Rio.

● Master Level Dance Seminar- For advanced dancers and directors of folklorico groups, to learn from international renown Angeles Luna and Daniel del Valle Hernandez

● Music Classes- Offered by Nematatlin musicians in jarana, requinto/guitar, violin and versada jarocha/voice at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

● Lectures and Demonstrations- Opportunities to learn the rich, cultural heritage of Veracruz and the historical, cultural, and social context of each son jarocho.

● Community Performances- Participants will participate in a community performance of son jarocho “Todos Bailan Su Son” and a fandango for all to enjoy.
