Born in La Experience, Jalisco, on January 18, 1944, Chelo, known as The Mexican Voice, debuted in show business at the age of 16, singing ranchera music in the palenques, which are 360 arenas common all throughout Mexico. She is recognized as one of the pioneers of mariachi style music.
From an early age, Chelo showed interest in music and began to stand out on local stages. Her big opportunity came when she joined the famous group Mike Laure and His Comets.
Chelo is remembered for hits like “Dos Gotas de Agua”, “Mejor Me Voy” and “Que Sacrificio”. She was the first Mexican woman nominated for an English Grammy. Her fresh style, along with her powerful voice, allowed her to connect with different generations. In addition to her music, Chelo also ventured into cinema, participating in several Mexican cinema films.
