The farmworkers’ ongoing struggles were brought to light after the horrific January 23rd mass shooting that left seven people dead at two mushroom farms, exposing deplorable living conditions, food insecurity, economic hardships and the need for healthcare for farmworkers and their families. Heavy rain from the winter storms left farms flooded across California destroying crops that impacted the hardworking people leaving many out of work.

The benefit concert will feature speakers including Dr. Belinda Hernandez Arriaga, Founder and Executive Director of Ayudando Latinos a Soñar (ALAS); Abel Sanchez, Filmmaker and songwriter “A song for Cesar,” Dolores Huerta, Civil Rights Leader and Advocate for Farmworkers, and Puente de la Costa Sur.

“We are grateful to Earth to Table for hosting this benefit concert that will help alleviate the economic hardships that have plagued the workers in the past several months,” said Dr. Belinda Hernandez Arriaga, Founder and Executive Director of ALAS.

“We care about the hardworking people who provide the food that we eat, and we don’t want people to forget about the tragedy in Half Moon Bay and about the inequities they’ve endured for decades. This is our first benefit, and we would like to build momentum so that this becomes an annual benefit concert,” said Brent Turner, Co-founder, Earth to Table.

There will be a short film about farmworkers to help the audience learn more about the struggles of the people who provide food for the country and contribute billions of dollars to the U.S. economy.
