2019 Dia Los Reyes events in Bay Area

See below all the Bay Area ‘Dia Los Reyes’ events! January 6th is a special day for Latino children.

Known as ‘El Dia de Reyes’ (Three Kings Day), this holiday represents the height of the Christmas season.

The date marks the culmination of the twelve days of Christmas and commemorates the three wise men who traveled from afar, bearing gifts for the infant baby Jesus. The children (of Mexico in particular) look forward to this holiday as gifts are exchanged on this date, not on Christmas day.

Though the holiday’s traditions vary among cultures and nationalities, many Latino families across the U.S. are maintaining a tradition popular in Spain and Latin American countries. Epiphany commemorates the biblical story of the birth of Jesus Christ. According to the gospel of Matthew, three Magi, or Wise Men —Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar —followed a star across the desert for 12 days to Bethlehem to find the baby Jesus and bring him gifts.
