Our vision for the 2ND Annual PYM Conference is to bring Justice Awareness to youth ages 14-24 all over San Francisco.
In our community, a lot of our youth face violence and barriers that most of the time get ignored or un-addressed. This is a Social Justice issue because in communities like ours, there is not enough affordable resources or support to offer to our people who are confronted with these types of situations. When youth don’t have an outlet to talk about the violence they see and face and when they don’t have the knowledge about how to address these issues, the cycle of violence continues.
With our conference (being at no fee) we want to provide that outlet for youth facing these situations along with a sense of strength and unity. We will do so by having a total of 6-8 (mostly youth led) workshops that focus on topics such as know your rights, restorative justice, violence intervention, police brutality, types of violence, the cycle of violence, school to prison pipeline etc. This is important because by providing these workshops we can give youth hope, inspiration, empowerment, motivation, clarity and transformation. Along with our workshops we will have special performances, food, incentives and much more!
