The Chicanx/Latinx Youth Empowerment Conference is a 3-day, 2-night event hosted by Yik’al Kuyum: the Chicanx/Latinx Holistic Support Program in the Student Recruitment and Retention Center, here at the University of California, Davis.
Yik’al Kuyum’s Chicanx/Latinx Youth Empowerment Conference aims to empower youth to strive for higher education, but also aims to promote cultural awareness through workshops, activities, motivational speakers, performers and mentorship, which ultimately encompasses our identities as Chicanxs/Latinxs.
CLYEC is open to ALL high school students who identify as Chicanx/a/o /Latinx/a/o and/or allies.
Throughout the weekend we hope to share our spaces, knowledge and hearts with the youth, who will ultimately return home feeling empowered and actively pursuing the betterment of their communities.
This years theme is, “The Revolution Begins With Me”. Throughout the conference we hope the students are able to understand the power of their identities, learn different forms of resistance and activism, and understand the importance of higher education. We acknowledge that the first revolution must be within oneself.
