ALEX LORA and his group was originally called THREE SOULS IN MY MIND who arised at the end of the 60s, pioneering the movement of ”Rock en Espanol” (Rock music in Spanish).
However, at the beginning of his career, his songs were composed in English and not until the release of his third album, LORA decided to compose in Spanish because it was important that his public understood the message in his songs.
Singing in Spanish gave Mexican rock music its own identity, “Rock and Roll Made in Mexico” achieving to become the new flag of the youth because the lyrics contained protests against the bad government officials, the abuse of power, the neglected children of the streets, heartbreaks and day-to-day things.
In 1971 he performed in the “Festival de Avandaro” (considered to the standards of Woodstock Festival) where the best Mexican Rock bands of the time played for more than three hundred thousand people on an open field with a magnificent landscape and spectacular view of the Valle de Bravo lagoon.
After this festival took place, the Mexican Rock and Roll was marginalized, reprieved and satanized, furthermore in order for this movement to survive the Mexican Rock and roll took refuge at the City borders where Rock and Roll was played in clandestine places that were called “Hoyos Funkys” (“Funky Holes” also called “underground”) using warehouses or abandoned lots of land and improvised places.
It was then when Alex LORA and his group struggled for the survival of his rock band, fighting against the establishment.
In 1985 he decided to change the name of the band from “Three Souls in My Mind” to El TRI because that was how his fans called him.
The recording of his first album with his new name in 1971 entitled “EL TRI SIMPLEMENTE” (Simply “El Tri”) launched the beginning of his internationalization. Despite the fact he was performing underground he started to gain popularity within the media and all social classes. Thus achieving to sign three concerts in Peru at “Plaza de Toros Ancho” where he sold out each concert. Further on in 1987 he came back to tour in the main cities of this country. After a long absence of 10 years “El TRI comes back with a successful concert in “Playa del Silencio” with an attendance of two hundred thousand people.
1987 was the year when El Tri was invited to perform in Spain and to participate in the “Primer encuentro de Rock Iberoamericano” (First Encounter of Iberoamerican Rock) at the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid, playing with the best groups of Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and Spain in order to celebrate the festivities of the “500 Anniversary of the Discovery of the Americas.”
The same year he began his career in the United States of America starring at “Teatro Blanquita” in East Los Angeles, California with great success. Followed by the recording of a live album called “En Vivo y A Todo Calor” (Live and in Full Heat) when performing at the Hollywood Palladium of Los Angeles, Ca. Subsequently, he had a series of performances in places such as “Olympic Auditorium, ”El Palace Sport Arena,” Pico Rivera, “Venizon Amphitheater and ” Gibson Amphitheater” where later in 2006 “El Tri” recorded another live album called “En Directo Desde El Otro Lado” (Directly From The Other Side). Subsequently and in order to celebrate his group´s 40th Anniversay. He played at the “Teatro Nokia” in Los Angeles, Ca., accompanied by renowned musicians such as, Sergio Arau, Javier Batiz and the USA´s own Lee Oscar and Billy Branch in the harmonicha.
