Experience a celebration of the culture and traditions of the Xichulense, the indigenous people of the Sierra Mountains, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. (Xichulense, pronounced shee-chu-lane-say = someone from Xichu. Yo Soy = I am.)

Xichulense Yo Soy is a vibrant and spectacular display of Mexican dances, costumes, customs, and music that will transport the viewer to a place and time when the Xichulense people ruled Guanajuato’s Sierra Mountains.

In the high sierra you will find the pueblo of Xichu. Experience the sound of their drums, chords of their violins, rarely seen dances and the memorable songs of Jose Alfredo Jimenez, one of the most important Mexican musical artists, whose music and lyrics inspired Ensambles’ Artistic Director, Zenon Barron, to bring to the stage the different aspects of the 1960’s Mexican social life. Accompanied with the live music from “Vinic-Kay” (la gente y el canto), experimental folkloric music ensemble led by Jose Roberto Hernandez.
