About:

The Tu Voz Importa photo-voice project was designed to amplify the unique voices of youth and women by harnessing their abilities to tell their own stories through guided photography and storytelling workshops. Images reflect the insights, families, and worldviews of 13 photographers in the North State region.

The photo-voice process included a series of workshops where participants learned photography and storytelling skills so that they could tell their stories and advocate for change within their communities.

Participation in photo-voice projects can be transformative for the photographers because they build the necessary confidence and skills to be able to effectively tell their story from their own point of view.
