Family Science & Astronomy Festival + Makerspace // San Mateo

Family Science & Astronomy Festival + Makerspace // San Mateo

Families, science buffs and makers of all ages will celebrate astronomy, science and the joys of making things at CSM’s popular Family Science & Astronomy Festival + Makerspace on Saturday, September 30 from 2 – 11 pm.

The annual festival draws more than 1,000 people and takes place this year on National Astronomy Day.

All activities are free and open to the public.

Festival highlights

  • Explore the beautiful but deadly world of carnivorous plants – watch your fingers!
  • Meet some real live reptiles – and take a craft version home
  • Make a model of molecules that exist in your very own body
  • Learn how a telescope works
  • Construct a planisphere
  • Help our astro-chef cook a comet
  • Make paper helicopters
  • Stitch fabric art-cards
  • Identify dinosaur bones
  • Explore outer space in one of CSM’s popular planetarium shows

And be sure to check out CSM’s anatomy students, who will be demonstrating how to make cadaver cookies (they’re more appetizing than they sound!).

A full schedule of activities is online.
