Flamenco direct from Spain!
The electrifying chemistry between the 9 dancers and musicians on stage is their inspiration and, shedding all artifice, they rely on improvisation to create an intimate and visceral encounter with the audience.
“Farruquito is one of the greatest flamenco dancers of the century” The New York Times
The Bay Area Flamenco Festival/Festival Flamenco Gitano, is proud to present Farruquito in his triumphant return to US after more than a decade. Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya ‘Farruquito’, is the reining patriarch of the Farruco Family: first family of Gypsy flamenco dance. The son of Flamenco singer Juan Fernández Flores, ‘El Moreno’ and dancer Rosario Montoya Manzano ‘La Farruca’, he is the chief proponent of unique dancing style founded by his grandfather, ‘Farruco’. Throughout his life he has been immersed in the culture of Gypsy flamenco and grew up dancing in family gatherings, weddings and baptisms.
Improvisao is a return to the essence of flamenco where the artists shed all artifice, relying on improvisation to create an intimate and visceral encounter with the audience. The electrifying chemistry among them sparks their inspiration. Vocals, guitar and dance are fused with complete freedom, creating an utterly unique performance every night and a context for the miracle of theduende.
“With the power and purity of his technique and the magic of his brooding presence, Farruquito is nothing less than sensational. The speed of his stamped rhythms is complex and phenomenal, no less so his spins and interpolations.” The New York Times, Anna Kisselgoff
