Fiesta del Mariachi is a community-friendly event that inspires families to gather and celebrate San José’s Mexican heritage through mariachi music.
The School of Arts and Culture at MHP (SOAC) continues its commitment to serve as an arts and cultural hub in East San José, hosting community events and educational programs that promote local artists and arts organizations.
Join us as mariachi superstars Lupita Infante and Nydia Rojas, as well as local favorites, Mariachi Azteca and Mariachi Tapatio, headline our outdoor concert. In addition to the performers, students who enrolled in the Fiesta del Mariachi workshop will showcase their talents with a recital.

The enthralling group, Mariachi Tapatio started in 1982. As a collective, they enjoy sharing their family traditions of authentic mariachi music within San José and the Bay Area. For 40 years, Mariachi Tapatío has been wowing crowds by producing a unique melody embedded in the traditions of mariachi music in Jalisco.
Grammy-winner and skilled mariachi Lupita Infante will perform some of her finest work for Fiesta del Mariachi! Talented in numerous genres, such as traditional mariachi, ranchers, and norteño music, she’s most recognized for her Grammy award-winning album, “La Serenata.”
Mariachi legend, Nydia Rojas is a week away from performing for our inaugural event, Fiesta del Mariachi! Pack your bags, bring your friends and family, and meet us at la Plaza. Don’t miss some of Nydia’s greatest hits like “El Jaripeo,” “Vidita Mia,” and “Ya Lo Sé Que Tú Te Vas.”

Fiesta del Mariachi Workshop!
In memory of Carla “Patita” Diaz and her inspiring dedication to mariachi music, our workshop will span over a day and a half focusing on the following instruments: violin, trumpet, guitar, vihuela, guitarron, and harp, as well as vocals.
Welcome to our online registration for Fiesta del Mariachi! This 2-day event shares the art of mariachi customs & traditions through music workshops for youth and a concert series for community members.
Participants must be at least 12 years of age with 3+ years of experience on their instrument. Registration is $80.00 per participant and includes 1.5 days of instruction, sheet music, lunch on Friday, admission to Friday’s student showcase and Saturday’s concert.

This inaugural Fiesta del Mariachi is dedicated to Carla “Patita” Diaz, who was instrumental in building the SOAC mariachi program.
She touched the lives of many aspiring musicians through our Summer Camp program and Mariachi Conservatory. Diaz passed away on October 7, 2021. The SOAC team will always remember Diaz for her inspiring passion for mariachi music, hard work, and love for her family and the East San José community.
