About free film:
We went to Lima, Peru, to film three master percussionists and when we got them together, the result was magic: Cotito, Lalo Izquierdo and Huevito play cajón, sing, perform zapateo, and talk about growing up with their Afro-Peruvian rhythms and all those wonderful jaranas!
Our 30 minute documentary captures the liveliness, talent and charisma of these three.
For those unfamiliar with Peruvian music, Cotito (Juan Medrano Cotito) plays with Nova Lima and was formerly percussionist for Susana Baca; Lalo Izquierdo has taught all over the world and is a percussionist, dancer, choreographer and folklorist. Huevito (“Freddy” Huevito Lobatón) is from Lima but now lives in New York where he is an important part of Gabriel Alegría’s Afro-Peruvian Sextet.
Filmmaker Eve A. Ma’s work has screened on three continents in seven countries. She produces and directs documentaries, experimental shorts and dramas – in Spanish and English.
