Biography:
CANDELA has two related meanings in Spanish, candle and fire.
Blessed with a tenor voice that resembles at times of that of Rubén Blades and Isaac Delgado, lead singer, Conga drummer Edgardo Cambón, started “Edgardo & Candela” Salsa Band in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1986.
Their high energy level performances, featuring great vocals, a tight rhythm section and the powerful sound of the horns, is by now -after 4 CD recordings to prove it- world renown.
Candela’s, repertoire combines dancing styles like Mambo, Cha-Cha-Chá, Merengue, Bolero, Bachata,Timba, Cumbia and much more.
A great audience communicator and seasoned performer, Edgardo will assure that everyone is entertained while he mixes singing tunes by Oscar De León, Eddie Palmieri, Rubén Blades, Tito Puente, Guaco, Pete “Conde” Rodriguez, Jerry Rivera, Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz and Ray Barretto among others, but the real treat here is Edgardo’s original music, presenting him as a poetic lyricist and accomplished writer.
Critics say:
– Edgardo has mastered that great ability to lead his Salsa Band from the Conga drums…while singing lead vocals…! Now… that’s a show by itself!
