Fundraiser for Oaxaca, Chiapas and Mexico City // SF

Fundraiser for Oaxaca, Chiapas and Mexico City // SF

Update: We are including Mexico City organizations in our fundraiser due to today’s events.

Dear friends, colleagues, and good samaritans. Please join us on Saturday to raise funds for those in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, impacted by the strongest earthquake in country in a century.

For Oaxaca, thousands upon thousands are now homeless!

1/3 of of some towns have completely fallen down, buildings are still falling, and worse, the tremors and aftershocks continue. Oaxaca is already the second poorest state in the country.

We know so many if you have visited and have fallen in love with Oaxaca, and right now Oaxacans need all the support especially in the Istmo.

For Mexico City!

The Istmo is a beautiful and cultural rich part of Mexico, and Juchitan, a city with many homeless right now, is known for its tolerance toward Queers, in particular the Muxe (Third gender) community, and for it’s socialist and leftist learnings, was one of the most hardest hit.

Suggested donation: $3-$300 (no one turned away for lack of funds)

Silent Art Auction: Includes a kite designed by Francisco Toledo, huipils, jewelry, etc.
Music: Live music from Mario Esteva,Dj B from Queer Qumbia and Dj Carnitas from Hard French
Poetry by Diana Flores

What Is Needed:

Please bring TENTS if you can. Please donate or purchase tents and we will be shipping them to LA and then they will be shipped to Juchitan.

We are always accepting help for: volunteers at the event, art work, and food donations.

Thank you kindly for Galeria de La Raza allowing us to use this space, and for being the cultural hub for so many.

Who We ARE: I am, Bobbi Lopez, a Mexican national, partially raised in Oaxaca, with family and friends still there, including in the Istmo. As we don’t have hometown associations in the bay, I’ve asked friends to help.

Where are the money and tents going: You will get to choose where your money goes either to vetted organizations or to folks direclty working to collect tents for those in Juchitan. We are hyper aware of collective concerns of the money going directed to those impacted and are currently determing the best orgs to accomplish this goal. At the event, we will strongly be encouraging direct donations via the internet to paypal sites associated with these organizations and prefer online donations to cash.
