Guelaguetza is a Oaxacan Indian Festival (also Called Lunes del Cerro, or Monday on the hill) that brings together indigenous people from the 7 regions of Oaxaca to dance, show off traditional Indian fiesta wear, enjoy Oaxacan food and have days of fun in the sun with live band playing tradicional tunes.
The Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza is an authentic cultural festival with dance, music, food, and crafts presented the third Sunday each May at Harbor High School.
This is like the traditional fiestas celebrated each July in Oaxaca, Mexico. Guelaguetza is a Zapotec word that means “a commitment of sharing and cooperation.” Guelaguetza is a celebration that honors the gods for sufficient rainfall and a bountiful harvest.
The 10th annual Vive Oaxaca Guelaguetza in Santa Cruz took place in May 2015 with over 4000 in attendance.
