La Peña Cultural Center is proud to present a CD launch party for “Herencia de los Carrillo”, featuring Bomba and Plena music and dance performances!
This musical project originates from the Carrillo family history of playing and writing traditional original tunes, focusing on two genres of Puerto Rican folk music: Bomba and Plena. The CD features original songs written by Los Carrillo family members from Monacillo, Puerto Rico.
Most of the songs on this highly anticipated album were composed by Roman “Ito” Carrillo, as a retrospective of his life work as a musician, performer and composer. He and his family have a long tradition of creating and performing traditional Puerto Rican Folkloric music for the past three generations.
This work is a compilation of some of his family’s favorite bombas and plenas. Many of the songs are intermixed with special compositions by brothers Anthony Carrillo (Eddie Palmieri bongocero), Edwin Carrillo and Miguel Carrillo. Featured artists on the CD include Hector Lugo, Shefali Shah, Pedro Pastrana, Miguel Luciano, Sandra Garcia Rivera and others.
