Why you should see In the Heights

Because the spectacle of 22 actors singing and dancing their hearts out to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s vibrant music (on our up-close, intimate stage) is simply electrifying.
Because Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Because it’s full of heartfelt stories about people finding their way in a hectic city and a swiftly changing world.
Because it’s rich with Latin cultures and sounds, from salsa to merengue to Latin pop.
Because, as the New York Times says, “When this musical erupts in one of its expressions of collective joy, the energy it gives off could light up the George Washington Bridge.”

In the Heights  tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood — a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In the Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestration.

What people are saying about In the Heights

“It’s hard to resist this valentine to the immigrant experience.”  –The Mercury News

“What makes In the Heights unique is that despite the driving pulse of its Latin-American rhythms, blending hip-hop, rap, jazz, pop, salsa and merengue, this buoyant musical also nods reverently to the traditions of the show tune. … A plucky marriage of youthful freshness and lovingly old-fashioned craft.”  –Variety

“Rich and kaleidoscopic.”  –New York Magazine
