The documentary follows his rise to baseball stardom, and then his fall with steroid use. He eventually wrote a tell-all book called “Juiced”, which led to his blackballing from Major League Baseball. Canseco got done wrong by Major League Baseball.

Sure he violated the “keep quiet code”, but at least he was telling the truth. He is now blacklisted from the sport and ridiculed like he was never a star in the league – while other players like McGuire and Clemons are coaches at the Major League level, even though they lied to Congress and made a mockery of the sport. Double standard??? Hmmmm…. (Facebook: Gabriel Romero).

The superstar professional baseball player Jose Canseco will make an in-person appearance at the Exclusive Red Carpet premiere of Bill McAdams Jr’s film about the former “Bash Brothers” career entitled “Jose Canseco: The Truth Hurts.”

Following an award-winning film festival circuit run, “Jose Canseco: The Truth Hurts” presents its first public premiere.

The film documents the life of the 1986 American League Rookie of the Year and two-time World Series Champion whose professional baseball career has generated both controversy and acclamation. While some revile Canseco for his use of performance-enhancing steroids and then ratting out former friends and teammates, others admire him for his courage to blow the lid off the widespread use of the illegal substances in Major Leagues Baseball.

“Jose Canseco: The Truth Hurts”– winner of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival’s “Moxie Award;” San Antonio Film Festival’s “Best Feature Narrative” and “Audience Choice Award: Best Documentary Feature;” and “Best Documentary” from the Boston International Festival–presents an intimate conversation with the man who sought to change baseball.

Have things changed for the sport of baseball for the good in 20 years? The headline for the May 4, 2016, CBS Sports Report reads: “MLB will soon announce another PED Suspension.” The answer is simply; apparently not.

Sponsorships are available and limited individual VIP packages for $100. per person plus processing fee which include an invitation to a VIP reception with the opportunity to meet and take a personal photo with the baseball great; a “Jose Canseco: The Truth Hurts” DVD and autographed movie mini-poster and complimentary Reserved seating at the premiere.

“Jose Canseco: The Truth Hurts” VIP Red Carpet Movie Premiere 1

It took 16 years for baseball owners, fans and the media to make Jose Canseco. It took them less than an hour to destroy him.

No figure in recent sports history has been as polarizing as Jose Canseco. Millions of baseball fans remember him as a powerhouse slugger with the speed and agility to earn one of sport’s rare statistics – 40/40, 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season.

But millions more remember him as a whistleblower whose admission to steroid use exposed a scandal that overshadowed his own remarkable 16-year major league career, and led to congressional hearings that cast a pall over America’s greatest pastime – baseball.

In this new documentary film written and directed by Bill McAdams, Jr., Jose Canseco: The Truth Hurts, Canseco addresses some of the most controversial questions surrounding his life and his career. What emerges is a nuanced portrait of a man driven by grief and a promise made. It was a promise he fulfilled, but it was a promise that cost him a great deal more than he ever anticipated.

Only time will tell whether history will remember Jose Canseco as a legend, a whistleblower or a scapegoat, but this candid documentary will leave audiences convinced of one inescapable fact: The Truth Hurts.

Director Bill McAdams, Jr., says, “Making this documentary has been very eye-opening for me. I think the audiences will be surprised by the candor and tone of the film, and interested to see some of the missing pieces to the puzzle.”
