Introduction video:

The ¡Viva México! Episode of CURRENTS series comes out on September 16, which of course happens to be Mexican Independence Day!

Tapping into indigenous, Argentinian, and Afro Mexican repertory and spanning generations and genres, Los Cenzontles and musicians of the San Francisco Symphony come together in works that touch upon issues of migration, identity, and loneliness—and celebrate resilience, heritage, family, and our multi-cultural world today.

Popular Bay Area band Los Cenzontles and musicians of the San Francisco Symphony come together to create something entirely new. The episode will feature conversation and performances that explore the intersection of classical and Mexican cultures and music, from classical beginnings, to indigenous and Afro Mexican roots.

¡Viva México! will include a main video episode, an accompanying podcast, and an educational “Explore & Create” video component.
