Latin rock/soul/funk band Malo formed in San Francisco by ex-members of bands the Malibus and Naked Lunch. Malo make its mark led by vocalist Arcelio Garcia and guitarist Jorge Santana (brother of Carlos Santana). Their debut self-titled album in 1972 featured “Nena,” “Cafe,” and “Suavecito,” which became a low-rider classic.
Malo’s current lineup includes:
Arcelio Garcia – Lead Vocals; Pete Rodriguez – Trumpet/Trombone; Daniel Cervantez – Keys; Jack Musgrove – Trumpet/flugelhorn; Brian Beukelman – Trumpet; Marcos Castillo – Congas; Shadow Garza – Bass; Paul Benavides – guitar; Gilbert Ross – Timbales; David George – Drums; and Justin Rossetti – Lead guitar.
Ramiro Amador, bass; David George, drums; Gabriel Manzo, lead guitar; Jay Rossette, 2nd lead guitar;; Frank Bailey, lead trumpet; and Tony Menjivar, congas / timbales. Another addition to the current Malo is Arcelio’s son, Octaviano, an excellent singer and performer in his own right.
