Armando Aguilar known as Mando “El Movimienrto is a Mexican – American Latin urban pop artist.
Aguilar was born in San Jose, California and was raised in various cities in the bay area. Being a son of immigrants, he confronted various struggles growing up such as poverty, discrimination and gang influences.
However, he was able to overcome these struggles with the help of his mother’s faith. She encouraged him to get involved with church activities. Aguilar participated in church plays, choir and became a youth leader. During that time, he wanted to become a Christian Reggaeton Artist. However, in his early years of high school, he had some negative influences that resulted in him leaving his church responsibilities. After various challenges and constantly moving homes, Aguilar ended up at Homestead High School during his junior year. Two of his favorite classes during senior year were his elective courses, which were choir and Music Genesis. In choir he practiced singing and in his Music Genesis was a music appreciation class that also taught students a bit of music production. At Homestead, he created the Latino Student Union club.
In 2013, he was awarded as “Student of the Year” for his remarkable accomplishments. Mando hoped to solely focus on becoming an entertainer after high school. However, the teacher who was also the club advisor encouraged him to join the Year Up program. This program prepares young adults to work in the tech industry by training them through classes and internships. It also gave students college credits.
Although Mando was attending this program, he was not willing to give up his dream of becoming a recording artist. His vision was to become a reggaeton/latin pop artist like his musical idols, RKM & Ken-Y. In August of 2013, Aguilar wrote his first complete song titled ‘Y Llegaste Tu’, which was accompanied by a romantic reggaeton beat he found on YouTube. This led to him finding more free beats on Youtube and composing songs. He began recording his first mixtape in December 2013. He finalized this project ‘Joven & Latino Mixtape’ in 2014 but released it in all digital platforms in 2015.
In 2016, Aguilar prepared his first real album. ‘Representando’ was launched in August 2016, which has a variety of Latin sounds from reggaeton, merengue, cumbia and more. Currently Aguilar is a young professional in the educational field, continues being a college student and is a singer-songwriter known as Mando “El Movimiento”
