May 14 – 15, 2016
Brava Theater Center is pleased to present MAPA@Brava’s second annual production created by its youth arts consortium: San Francisco Youth Theatre, Cuicacalli Escuela de Danza and SF Running Crew in a musical production of Miquel de Cervantes’ timeless Don Quixote, the comical and inspiring story of an iconic visionary who sees the world in a magical way.
The book’s colorful characters of Don Quixote, Sancho Panza, Dulcinea, knights in shining armor, puppets and dueling windmills have inspired audiences for centuries. Adapted by John Litten, the play is performed by SF Youth Theatre’s 415 Teen Ensemble under the direction of Paul Collins with music by Maggie McKaig and Emily Klion, musical direction by Marcelo Pereira, costumes by Susana Aragón and sets and lighting by SF Running Crew.
MAPA@Brava (Mission Academy of Performing Arts) is a consortium of youth arts organizations that rehearse and perform together at the Brava Theater. Brava’s long standing technical theatre program for youth, San Francisco Running Crew, teams up with SF Youth Theater 415 Teen Ensemble and Cuicacalli Escuela de Danza, providing Mission District youth with a comprehensive high quality curriculum in the performing arts. Supported by SF DCYF.
