Oakland Ballet presents Luna Mexicana, a family-friendly celebration of the Mexican Day of the Dead, with dancing, costumes, live music and holiday treats.
A cast of ten dancers tells the story of a young woman whose departed loved ones joyously dance back to life on the Día de los Muertos. Audience members of all ages are encouraged to attend in Day of the Dead costume, and prizes will be awarded for the most impressive outfits.
Vendors will sell Day of the Dead refreshments such as the sweet pan de muerto in the Paramount lobby, and the performance will commence with live mariachi music. For more information, visit www.oaklandballet.org.
Oakland Ballet is excited to premier a new performance – a dance and music celebration of the iconic Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)! In Luna Mexicana, a young woman’s dreams revive her relatives and friends who all dance back to life in the forms of teetering skeletons, skirt swishing girls, a high flying “deer dancer,” and a deathly Bride and Groom. This family friendly performance is filled with festive dancing, colorful costumes, and vibrant music including traditional Mexican folk music and witty electronic fusions. Audience members are encouraged to attend in Day of the Dead attire.
Running time is approximately 1 hour with no intermission.
Doors open 60 minutes before show time.
