Developed with Latinx and Indigenous communities, ¡Plantásticas! is a multilingual experience that invites visitors to touch, smell, and zoom into the world of plants.

Experience exhibits designed by Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino of Berkeley’s Cafe Ohlone, and relax in immersive plant patios created by Los Angeles-based artist Andi Xoch.

Join us for the opening night of ¡Plantásticas! and get to know the wonderful world of plants!

From science to culture to the oxygen we breathe, plants enrich our lives in countless ways. Touch plants, smell them, magnify them under microscopes, and marvel at the beautiful patterns they make.

Tonight, meet some of the collaborators behind the exhibition, enjoy special activities, and dive deeper into the roles plants play in culture, ecosystems, and more.   Read all about it here.

Acompáñanos en la noche de inauguración de la exhibición ¡Plantásticas! y conoce el maravilloso mundo de las plantas. Desde la ciencia hasta la cultura y el oxígeno que respiramos, las plantas enriquecen nuestra vida de innumerables maneras. Tócalas, huélelas, obsérvalas bajo el microscopio y maravíllate con los hermosos patrones que crean.

Esta noche, conoce a algunos de los colaboradores de la exhibición, disfruta de actividades especiales y aprende más sobre la función que desempeñan las plantas en la cultura, los ecosistemas y más.

The Great Tortilla Conspiracy

Armed with screen printing techniques and edible dye, The Great Tortilla Conspiracy will cook up and custom screen-print tortillas using a selection of artworks from their collection. Eat and enjoy these aesthetic sensations. Salsa is optional.

The Great Tortilla Conspiracy is the world’s most dangerous tortilla art collective. Founded in the late 1970s, the collective began as a satirical response to the phenomenon of people seeing sacred images in domestic settings.

Learn about the cultural context and the science of corn—and see for yourself how a corn tortilla is made from scratch! Yucatec Maya elder María Ávila Vera and her daughter-in-law Irma Magaña Canul will share traditional cooking methods that have been passed down and refined through generations. They will be joined by Exploratorium Senior Scientist Dr. Isabel Hawkins, who will highlight the nutritional, ecological, and scientific significance of corn.
