The SF Planning Commission Hearing to protect Calle 24/Mission Latino Cultural District
San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Place, San Francisco, California 94102
- Apparently, the newcomers to the Mission don’t like the LCD, although they love the taco bars, murals, and Mission “flavor”, just not Latinx people?
- We received some push back from the same folks who don’t like Calle 24 or the idea of a Latino Cultural District. So we’re organizing folks who support us to come to the Planning Commission meeting on February 9th and our subsequent hearings.
- Please come and tell the Planning Commissioners that if the Mission is to have any Latinx residents and businesses, STRONG protections must be in place, now.
As we near the development of our special use district. We are reminded of the movement in our neighborhood to fight against gentrification on 24th and to protect our cultural assets, small businesses, non-profits, residents and artist. Hundreds from the Calle 24 Mission neighborhood expressed their concerns about gentrification during a march in 2013. Since then we are stronger, united, and established in 2014 the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District. We reached out to over 4,0000 in the neighborhood to prioritize the communities concerns. We held public meetings, focus groups, stake holder interviews as to how best serve the needs of this community. The Special Use District is just one of many tools needed to preserve, enhance and grow our merchants on 24th so that it can survive for future generations.
PROTECT OUR CORAZON!!! The heart of the Mission, Calle 24 Latino Cultural District
Calle 24 will be presenting to the planning commission its legislaltion for commercail regulations in the Latino Cultural District.
These regulations have been in the works for nearly two years. These regulations are intended to stabilize the LCD, preserve our small store fronts, stabilize the rents, protect our food retail mix, and encourage neighborhood serving business. Please click on the link below to read the full legislation. Please save the date!! Time will be updated as we near date. NEW TIME IS BETWEEN 1:00 and 1:30 PM Item number 2. We will have talking points available at the hearing and “Protect our Corazon” stickers.
We have opposition that do not want the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District or the Special Use District and are organizing to attend. We need to have a full house showing that we want to preserve our businesses from more dispalcement and gentrification.
