A dance & music performance that explores the diversity and evolution of Brazilian Samba– from its roots in Afro-Brazilian slave traditions to the dazzling display of technique, sensuality, and power that it has become.
Under the artistic direction of Marcelo Chocolate & Alvaro Reys- revered Samba superstars from Rio de Janeiro, featuring some of the most talented Bay Area sambistas, and BrasArte artist-in-residence Weslei Guimaraes.
Audiences will experience samba from its creation in Bahia, Brazil to its migration to Rio de Janeiro, samba’s historic marginalization, and its resilience in becoming one of the most beloved aspects of Brazilian culture. This show consists of ALL NEW choreographies featuring a stunning variety of what we call Samba.
