As the argument for repatriation of indigenous objects grows and the discussion of cultural ownership continues to shape institutional practices and historical memory, 3 contemporary Mexican artists combine their inherited cultural knowledge and pre-Columbian imagery with contemporary aesthetic presentations that explore a narrative outside of anthropological stereotypes.
Featuring the works by Gabriela Morac, Alberto Mendiola and Hugo Gutierrez.
This body of work was curated by Teresa Diaz of Red Dot Gallery in Oaxaca, México. Galería de la Raza proudly presents and recontextualizes this traveling exhibition at its Studio 24 Annex.
