Richmond and San Pablo will host the area’s first-ever Latin American Independence Day Parade on Sept. 14.

The parade will celebrate the independence anniversaries of many Latin American countries, including Mexico, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Brazil, organizers said. Traditional music, dance, costumes and floats will be featured.

The Sept. 14 parade will start at 10 a.m. at the intersection of 23rd Street and Barrett Avenue. It will follow the same route along 23rd Street as Cinco de Mayo, proceeding north to San Pablo Avenue. Organizers expect thousands will visit the vibrant corridor.

“We are thrilled to host San Pablo and Richmond’s first Latin American Independence Day Parade,” said Genoveva Calloway, Chair of the parade planning committee. “This celebration honors the diverse Latin American communities in our cities and brings together residents of all backgrounds.”

The Latin American Independence Day Parade is being held after heavy rainfall postponed the annual Cinco de Mayo parade in Richmond and San Pablo.
