About fundraiser:

BBQ Without Borders is a day to show unity, cultivating a space where immigrants can celebrate their culture’s positive additions to our society.

Immigrants have long contributed valuable sustainable practices, from eco-friendly farming to a deep respect for nature, helping us “cook up” a more sustainable future.

One of the goals of BBQ Without Borders is to raise $50,000 with proceeds benefiting the Resilience Fund, a joint effort between NINS and the Unity Council to provide mutual aid to immigrants lacking access to traditional aid. What Gupta values most is hosting an event in what she describes as a divisive time.

On Aug. 2nd, they will host their summer fundraising event, BBQ Without Borders, to honor the culture, cuisine and impact of immigrants.

“In many different ways, we use food to connect people, to break bread,” Dr. Gupta said. “So no hot dogs or hamburgers. It’s like lechon, tandoori or teriyaki. [We’re] basically using food as a vehicle to tell the story.”
