When the Cuban restaurant Caña closed on Feb. 18, longtime fans wondered what would happen to its popular Salsa Sundays.

The event found a new home at For The Culture, formerly the site of Mexicali Rose restaurant.

Starting this Sunday, April 21, salsa dancing is back with sounds by DJs Mayky and WaltDigz. In addition to the dancing, there will also be brunch with bottomless mimosas.

About new venue:

#fortheculture exists as a melting pot where art, history, community, creativity, and forward thinking blend together to form a space for creatives of all kinds to commune together, collaborate, and vibe out harmoniously.

The 9+ decade old building that houses #fortheculture is designed with newly painted murals in addition to pieces of artwork/fixtures from the previous restaurant (Mexicali Rose) as a symbol of homage to the community it has served in the past, will continue to serve today and in the future.

#fortheculture represents a space for the community of Oakland, its surroundings cities, and travelers from all over; to gather, honor, and appreciate what the Oakland culture has meant and continues to mean to the Bay Area, the state of California, and beyond.
