For the April 2022 podcast, Indómitas will interview award-winning Latiné filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist Mabel Valdiviezo.

This is a FREE community event (though we do ask people to RSVP and donations are happily accepted).

Please note that the conversation will be in Spanish.

Mabel Valdiviezo is an award-winning Latiné filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist who creates immersive works through film, mixed media, video art, and performance. Her work is grounded in the Latino/a/e/x community and her identity as an indigenous immigrant artist. Utilizing a poetic vocabulary, she explores transnational migration, gender equality, mental health, and indigenous spirituality.

Her films use traditional and experimental storytelling techniques, turning the camera inward to reveal authentic first-person stories about her community. Mabel has over a decade of experience producing and editing long-form documentaries, narrative shorts and non-profit videos. She has screened her film work all over the world including PBS, LALIFF, and MTV. As CounterPulse’s Combustible Artist-in-Residency in 2019, she directed the multimedia dance performance “Metamorphosis: Phase 1”. As a community artist and the founder of Arts 4 Healing, Mabel co-creates with immigrants, women, and seniors using the expressive arts to promote empowerment and resilience. She has been invited to speak about her work at universities and arts organizations, including UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and The Gotham. Her work has been featured on BBC Outlook, ABC7, Forbes, and HuffPost.

Indómitas is a live podcast series hosted by Chelis López of KPOO and Radio Bilingüe, featuring interviews with fierce women artists and activists
Each month in Brava’s Cabaret, Indómitas will interview female singers, writers, poets, activists, artists, journalists, filmmakers, and others – some well-known and some deserving to be – for live broadcast. These 60-minute conversations will cover the women’s stories of achievement, pitfalls, and hopes for their futures.

Be ready for open and honest conversations, where intimacy fosters the sharing of joy, fear, acceptance, and ultimately, the strength of women. It’s our time to be the ones who narrate our stories of who we are, what we do, what matters to us and how we organized and stand up for our rights.
Indómitas Podcast Series will be available through Chelis López’ website, and other platforms.
