LOS GAITEROS DE SAN JACINTO:
Formed in the Caribbean Region of Colombia, they have been active since 1940. Their music preserves traditions developed through the mixing of Amerindian, African and Spanish heritages, and it is the precursor to big band and accordion-based cumbia. In 2007, the group won a Latin Grammy award in the category Folkloric Music for their album “Un Fuego de Sangre Pura,” released on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Since then, Los Gaiteros de
San Jacinto have toured the world generating enthusiasm for their music well beyond regional and national borders.
